Wedding Wines – Updated

It’s that time of year when golf clubs, churches, backyards and cottages are covered with giant white tents and the sounds of ‘Tequila’ or ‘All of My Love’ echoing across lawns.

Weddings are an important part of our business and we ask all of you to consider us as a supplier for those special occasions.  Depending on the volume ordered, we may even extend licensee pricing for private events, so contact us to ask about available discounts.

That said, the wine should speak for itself.

We have a number of new suppliers and we’d like to remind you that we’re more than happy to help you create a ‘perfect’ wine list for the evening’s events!

Add Some Sparkle

Of course, the evening is nothing without a good sparkling wine or champagne to start things off.  The Thurn & Taxis Sparkling Bianco may not be for everyone, but it’s not going to crush your budget like a traditional Champagne product might.  If you want to splurge a little, we definitely recommend the Zantho Sparkling Brut Rosé.  It’s made in the traditional style and goes a long way when you’re organizing a toast with friends and family.

Whites from Light & Dry to Full & Fruity

Our favourite recommendation for a white is Zantho’s Sauvignon Blanc.  It’s a medium-bodied white that almost every discerning white wine enthusiast will enjoy.  At $17 per bottle, it comes to just a little over $200 per case.

Another consideration is either the Stama Chardonnay.  Stama’s Chard is more full-bodied and buttery, features that most folks look for with ‘dinner whites’.  Stama’s Chard sells for $20 per bottle and just recently won a GOLD medal with the San Francisco International Wine Competition.

Stand-Alone & Food-Friendly Reds

We like all reds, especially those dry wines that blend perfectly with almost any food, especially steak, roast chicken and most pork dishes.  Zantho’s St Laurent is a perennial favourite and is now listed with the LCBO (product number 315556, $15.95).

Of course, most folks like those quaffable full-bodied reds that they can enjoy as ‘stand-alone’ wines (ie. you don’t need an appetizer of entrée chaser).  Based on a combination of feedback to date, restaurant orders and our own personal tastes, the list is growing, but we’ve done our best to filter it:

  1. Accordo, from Le Velette (Italy).  At $20 per bottle, this 100% Sangiovese wine rivals any products from Tuscany or elsewhere.
  2. Nymph Cabernet, from Stama (California).  For special occasions, including gifts for the lucky couple, this wine goes at $28/bottle.
  3. Old Vine Zin, from Grady (California).  This luscious, full-bodied product blows away many of those Zins and with a price of $25/bottle, it balances between budget and quality.
  4. Special Reserve Cabernet, from Grady (California).  This is one of our favourites.  It’s a delicious and subtle Cab Sauv that leaves people begging for more.  Again, at just $25/bottle, you can prove to your guests that you have taste while respecting your pocket-book.
