This past weekend was a busy one for promoting ourselves and our wine products. Both the producers with Zantho and Le Velette should take a bow, as all of their products were well received!
On Friday, we were invited to the office of a local web development shop to help them explore some ideas about creating their own ‘house wine’. Stay tuned as we discuss details about what might work for them. In the interim, thank you Dave and the ‘Social Committee’ for your time and feedback.
On Saturday, I found it hard to believe that it was hard to believe that it was already December 1. With Christmas and the holidays just around the corner, it was a pleasure to be an important part of a Christmas party being hosted by good friends of ours. They had about 20 guests and about half the audience are wine enthusiasts, so our friends booked us to walk through a number of wine products and discuss food pairings. Our hosts had lots of cheese from Monforte Dairy and elsewhere and I brought some chocolates from Windell’s Chocolates.
I’ve discussed wine and cheese pairings with Monforte on other posts, but the chocolates were new – and extremely well received.
Here were the basic recommendations from May, the owner of Windell’s Chocolates:
- Gruner Veltliner – coconut truffle (EXCELLENT)
- St. Laurent- dark chocolate truffle- hoping that the simple dark picks up those black cherry overtones (GOOD)
- Sole Uve- peanut butter sizzle (peanut butter with a hint of cayenne pepper- cayenne brings out the nuttiness in the peanut butter and the peanut butter smooths out the cayenne). (OK)
- Calanco- dark chocolate truffle (FABULOUS)
I have to hand it to May for even daring to try to make the recommendations and they were all very good (thank you, May!). The only challenge was the Sole Uve, which has a very different ‘spirit’ when it comes to wine. I should have tried it with the Salted Caramel / Dark Chocolates, as I think the salt would have jazzed up the Sole Uve a little.
If you have events that you’d like us to support, either with wine product or helping out with ‘Wine 101′ sessions, please let us know by emailing bill AT noteworthywines DOT ca (address modified to avoid spam).
All the best and please remember that as you begin to celebrate the Holiday Season, please drink responsibly and have a designated driver appointed at all times!
