New Suppliers from Lodi, California

It Begins With Your Request

We’re very excited to announce that we will begin working with at least two new suppliers from the Lodi region of California.

Many of you have told us that you like the full-bodied Zinfandels and Cab Sauvs of California, so we’ve done our research and have selected two new suppliers:  Grady Family Vineyards and Stama Winery.

Grady Family Vineyards

Grady Cab ReserveGrady Family Vineyards started with a small planting in 1998 and has since come to be recognized as the best producer of grapes like Petit Syrah in the entire Lodi region.  Their Cabs and other wines are pretty awesome as well!

The Cab Reserve recently won Double Gold Medals at the International Wine Judging contest and most of their other wines score in the high 80s and win silver or better with local competitions.

Delivery of samples will be early to mid June and we look forward to booking tasting sessions with local licensees and enthusiasts alike.

Discounts will be available to licensees.

If you would like to book a tasting with us, please call 519-914-1204 or email info@noteworthywines.ca.

Stama Winery

Stama Nymph Cabernet SauvignonWe had our first tasting of Stama Wines when we went for a family visit in South Carolina and Frank was kind enough to send us a few samples of his very popular red wines.

The story of Stama is a fascinating one, going back to their father’s involvement in the Greek struggle for independence and family history that stretches back to production in Southern Greece.

In Lodi, the family has been growing several different premium varieties of grapes since 1987.  The land under management has grown to more than 210 acres today, a significant swath of land.

The climate and terrain allows for the production of a wide range of products, from cost-effective table wines to extremely well-received premium products, like their ‘Nymph’ Cabernet Sauvignon.

Tasting sessions for these wines will begin later in July and through the summer.

Why Lodi?

Lodi (pronounced Low-dye) is California’s ‘grape haven’.  This is a massive producing region and our new suppliers are some of the best from the area.

We’ll explore this question in a little more detail in a different blog entry, but here are the main reasons why we chose Lodi as our first region from California:

  • Quicker shipping times
  • Lodi produces up to 25% of the wine that you get in Napa / Sonoma wines, so we chose to go to the source
  • This region was one of the first in the world to implement a series of guidelines related to sustainable growing and production practices and most of the suppliers in this region (including Stama and Grady) follow these guidelines.
  • Many grape plants are some of the few that can legitimately be called ‘Old Vine’ as many regions continue to change and pull out plants to suit the flavour of the day.  Some of the best ‘Old Vine’ Zinfandels come from this region and from our new suppliers.

We hope you enjoy the choices we’ve made with respect to our new suppliers.  We’ve had many conversations with Jim, Beth, Frank, Konstantino and others and we feel privileged for having the opportunity to represent them in Ontario.
