EatDrink is an amazing local publication that my wife and I discovered when we first moved to London.
It was our ‘local food bible’ and continues to serve us well as we discover new restaurants, food events and, of course, wine-related activities.
It’s a great honour and privilege to have been invited to contribute to this publication as the local wine writer. (Thank you Chris!).
The topic at hand was all about summer BBQ season and picking the right wine for your event. I chose a pretty broad range of products and admit that the inclusion of the St Laurent was important to me for a number of reasons:
- This is a truly unique grape that stands up well to almost every other red varietal out there. It offers body, vitality and a deep fruit core that offers a good finish.
- It’s extremely food-friendly. As I pay more attention to quality wine and how it plays a critical role in the enjoyment of food,
- This varietal should be grown in more places in Ontario. Because of the modest plantings world-wide, I believe that strong St Laurent products from Ontario may differentiate Pinot Noirs and Chards that face an ocean of competition.
Of course, in the interest of full disclosure, the Zantho St Laurent is our first listing with the LCBO (look up product # 315556). There it is. I’m doing my best to be transparent, but truth be told, I still would have recommended it if we didn’t have a relationship with Zantho because the reasons listed above are all about why I got into wine, and less so about why we got into the wine business.
I look forward to writing and contributing to EatDrink (assuming I’m invited back) and will do my best to explore the world of wine while balancing the needs of our business. With that in mind, I hope you enjoyed the article and I look forward to getting your feedback on additional topics that I could cover.
